Castle Douglas will be hosting a Halloween Spooktacular Sunday October 31st.
Castle Douglas Development Forum is working with artists in residence Martin Danziger and Kiera Manson to produce a Halloween Spooktacular on Sunday October 31st.
Employed through The Stove Network and their ‘What We Do Now’ project, Martin and Kiera are working alongside CDDF to bring a host of new circus skills workshops and events to Castle Douglas over the next 12 months. To start their project off with a bang Martin has become director of the WOW! Circus project and proposed a Halloween event to take place this coming October to truly welcome circus into the community.
Castle Douglas’ Halloween Circus Carnival lwill take place on Sunday 31st October with a host of exciting activities for children, families, and adults. Across Halloween there will be performers, producers, skill workshops, face painters, music and much more to keep everyone entertained and in the Halloween spirit! The event will start at 2pm on Market Hill with a Halloween Carnival with live performances, circus and craft workshops, walkabout performers and a variety of stalls.
At 7pm there will be a gathering in the park for a spectacular night time performance, featuring some of Scotland’s most exciting circus companies, as well as routines and performances from local groups.
In the lead up to the event Martin and Kiera will be running a series of free workshops in lantern making and circus skills over the October holidays. There is a call out to all community groups who are welcome and encouraged to create their own contribution to the event. It can be a themed walking performance to make up part of the parade or decorations for the event such as bunting, lanterns, costumes, headdresses, or make-up. While groups can work entirely independently on their contribution Martin, Kiera and CDDF will be able to provide groups with workshops to teach them skills and advise on sound systems and suggest suitable music.
Regarding the event Martin Danziger says: We are really excited about creating a circus Halloween event with Castle Douglas, and the chance to bring together professional circus performers, community groups and young people for a wild and spooky night.
