The school is situated in the village of Gelston which lies three miles south of the market town of Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway.The easiest way to find the school is to follow the B736(sign posted Auchencairn) from Castle Douglas. Two miles south of the town turn right at the T-Junction. Continue up the hill and into the village of Gelston. Keep straight ahead at the crossroads and the school is 200m on the right.Gelston village was built to house the workers of Gelston Castle Estate owned by Sir William Douglas, the founder of Castle Douglas. At one time the village had its own mill, blacksmith and shop. Gelston Castle has fallen into disrepair but the Estate Buildings are still in use today.
